Yiddish Classes

The Workmen’s Circle offers Yiddish classes for various levels.


Fall 2011

Beginning Yiddish I: 7:30-8:30 p.m., every other week

This class is for anyone who wants to learn Yiddish.  No previous knowledge of the language is necessary.  Using the textbook, Yiddish: An Introduction to the Language, Vol. I by, Sheva Zucker we will cover the basics of Yiddish grammar and learn the essential tools for Yiddish conversation.  Music, history and culture will be an incorporated part of the classroom experience.  Instructor: Daniella HarPaz Mechnikov

 

Nokh Mer Yiddish—Yiddish for the post-Beginner:  6:15-7:15 p.m., every other week

This class will use literature, news, music and culture to further conversation and grammar skills.  This class assumes a basic knowledge of the Yiddish language.  Students who have speaking/comprehension skills but no reading/writing may still join the course and will learn to read in the beginning of the class.  The class will use a course pack of selected readings.
